Why Global Warming is so popular

… and it sure isn’t the evidence.

Global cooling would be just as attractive if you could get the evidence to be at least plausible.

The keys are two:

1) It is a simple theory which can be used to explain a huge number of seemingly disparate events which might otherwise require more thought;

2) It is concerns the weather, the thing which unifies people everywhere, the universal topic of conversation. This means that it can be brought up all the time; it bids us to consider it anew every day in light of new events. It adds a new spice to our universal topic.

As we know, but are apt to forget, popularity doesn’t make truth!

Helping to dispel any doubts about the a-rationality of the conversation about global warming, my mom’s response upon seeing this post: “you know, there is global warming, so I hope you’re not saying there isn’t.”

Who needs experimentation and facts when we’ve got such a great theory?  You know its true, because you can look it up- in your gut.
